Admission criteria
Our admission criteria align with those of our French parent. In brief, this means a Chartered Engineer or Scientist or the equivalent professional status, whether by post-graduate qualification or post-graduate experience in a role requiring knowledge and skills at a similar level. The application is sponsored by two Members and the applicant is duly elected by the Council of the British Section of IESF and who, upon notification, has paid the subscription, currently £60 annually for the full year.
Applications for Membership
Applications are always welcome from those with an engineering or scientific background who meet our membership criteria and feel that they could enjoy and contribute to the atmosphere of this small and friendly society. Prospective applicants usually have an appreciation of engineering or scientific achievement, good food and company, and perhaps more than a sneaking respect for the “Grand Projects” of our colleagues across the Channel.
Those interested in joining who do not already know an existing Member of the British Section of IESF are invited to contact the Membership Secretary at mem.secretary@iesf.co.uk
Alternatively you may download an application form - please note that the completed forms need to be accompanied by a summary one page CV.
Les Amis de la Section Britannique
A special membership category of the society: On the death of a member, their wife, husband, or partner is invited by the Council to become a “Friend of the British Section”, should they so wish. The Friends are invited to attend all meetings, dinners, visits, and voyages, alongside members. The costs of these events for Amis are the same as for members and their guests. The friends of the society pay a reduced subscription, currently £45 for the full year.
